Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a rare type of dementia.

It is not the same as Alzheimer’s Disease.

It is sometimes called a language-led dementia. This is because language and communication are the main difficulties in the early- and mid-stages of the dementia. It usually starts very slowly.

PPA affects everyone differently.

There are three main types of primary progressive aphasia.

They are:

  1. Non-fluent variant of PPA
  2. Semantic variant of PPA
  3. Logopenic variant of PPA
